CHAIRMAN
JANUARY 2011

PHILOSOPHY, EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR, DISCIPLINE

PRACTICE

Attendance: Please attend - We can’t play well as a team unless we practice as a team!
Days : Two days a week your Coach will advise of your specific age group days and times.
Location : Escombe Football Club

Rain Policy : Should there be inclement weather it is your responsibility to contact the Coach to ascertain whether or not there will be training. If your child is not able to attend a training session for whatever reason, please have the courtesy to advise the Coach accordingly.

Matches: Matches are played according to match fixtures, which are drawn up by the Association to which we are affiliated. It there is inclement weather or if it is raining, unfortunately both teams are required under the Associations ruling to be present at the field. The referee and/or both Coaches will only decide on arrival at the field whether or not it is playable. Unless the field is totally water logged or there is a torrential down pour will the games be cancelled. We play to a fixed league structure which becomes very tight towards the end of the season should games continuously be cancelled. Kindly refrain from calling either the Coach or Manager, as they may not solely make the decision to call the game off.

Philosophy and Objectives :

1. Fun
2. Teach Soccer fundamentals and teamwork
3. A safe environment
4. Our success will be measured by the above and by our improvement, not by wins and losses.

Equipment:

1. All players must wear proper shin pads to every practice and every game.
2. No jewellery, metal devices, or hazardous equipment may be worn. (casts can be allowed if they are padded and the referee approves them before the game).
3. Each player should bring a plastic water bottle to games and practices.

Expected Behaviour – by Parents

1. “Positive encouragement is good; negative comments are bad.”
2. “Cheering is good, but do not yell at your child or anyone else’s child during the game. It can be distracting and what you tell them may be different from what the coaches are saying. If you would like to be an assistant coach, please contact your respective Coach and advise.
3. “Be careful not to say anything that might be taken the wrong way or hurt someone’s feelings. Remember, this is for fun and these are children.
4. “Be a good role model and a good sport.”
5. “Do not yell at the referees or say anything bad to or about the other team. Never boo the other team or cheer when they make a mistake.”

Expected Behaviour – by Players

1. Everyone must follow all directions given by the Coaches.
2. Everyone must hustle and do their best.
3. When the Coach talks all must be still and listen.
4. Everyone is expected to be a good sport whether we win or lose.
5. No cursing or name calling.
6. Disruptive or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.
7. A player should give of his best in a sportsmanly manner at all times.

The George Beecroft Tournament

The annual George Beecroft Tournament honours one of Escombe Football Clubs finest Gentleman and servants of Escombe Football Club.
The well managed infrastructure that all our junior players have available to them today is largely due to the +- 30 years of service George gave to establishing, growing, and managing the junior section at Escombe Football club.

The commitment George showed to the Queensburgh Communities youngsters, and to the development of Football, and Life Skills for our youngsters is remembered with the George Beecroft Memorial Tournament.

"George wasn’t just our football coach, he was a life coach.

He taught us how to be good men on and off the field. He led by example. He was like a second dad to us, offering advice and encouragement. He was one of the most amazing people I have ever met, and he was well-loved by everyone who knew him"- Richard V - former EFC Player...

The Griffin - The Escombe football Club Emblem"

The griffin, griffon, or gryphon is a legendary creature with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion; the head and wings of an eagle; and an eagle's talons as its front feet. As the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts and the eagle was the king of the birds, the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. The griffin was also thought of as king of the creatures. Griffins are known for guarding treasure and priceless possessions.

In heraldry, the griffin's amalgamation of lion and eagle gains in courage and boldness, and it is always drawn to powerful fierce monsters. It is used to denote strength and military courage and leadership.
